Garry E. Menzel, PhD, MBA

Dr. Garry Menzel is an accomplished, versatile executive with more than 20 years of strategy, finance and operations experience in building global healthcare businesses. He is a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader with a proven and consistent ability to lead high-performing teams of professionals to execute corporate strategies

He was most recently the Chief Financial Officer of DaVita Healthcare Partners, a $25 billion global healthcare services company that operates more than 2,200 kidney dialysis clinics and manages the largest physician practice network devoted to population health management (NYSE: DVA). Prior to that, he was the Chief Operating Officer for Regulus Therapeutics, where he was instrumental in driving the company from a start-up to its successful IPO and transition, to having a $1 billion valuation and clinical drug candidates for hepatitis C and Alport syndrome (NASDAQ: RGLS). Dr. Menzel also served in global executive leadership roles as a Managing Director building the healthcare investment banking groups at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse as well as being a strategy consultant with Bain & Company. He was an officer in the British Army reserves.

His Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Cambridge was for studying the role of ion channels in regulating the activity of proto-oncogenes in cancer cells. He also has an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Dr. Menzel serves on the board and finance committee of the Epilepsy Foundation and previously served on the board and audit committee of the Institute for Systems Biology.
